The Truth About Quality, Labels, and Naturally Occurring Sodium

By: Kerry Foreman, Owner and Founder of Muskoka Mornings®

When shopping for protein powders, most consumers focus on protein content, price and taste.

However, one factor that deserves just as much attention is where the product is made and whether it meets Canadian standards for quality, safety, and labeling.

At Muskoka Mornings®, we are proud to produce our No Yolking™ 100% Egg White Protein Powder in Canada using high-quality Canadian egg whites. As more imported egg white powders enter the marketplace, it’s important for consumers to understand that not all products are held to the same standards.

Canada has some of the most rigorous food safety regulations in the world. From the farms that produce the eggs to the facilities that process and package them, Canadian manufacturers must adhere to strict requirements designed to ensure product safety, quality, and transparency.

These standards extend beyond food production and into labeling. Canadian regulations require manufacturers to provide consumers with accurate nutritional information and ingredient disclosures so they can make informed choices about the foods they consume.

This commitment to transparency brings us to a question we’ve received recently regarding our packaging.

You may have noticed that our newer packaging includes a sodium declaration on the front of the package. Some customers have wondered whether we’ve changed the formula or started adding salt.

The answer is simple: No. We do not add salt to our egg white protein powder.

The sodium listed on our packaging is naturally occurring sodium that is already present in egg whites. It has always been part of the product because it is naturally found in the egg itself.

Recent Canadian labeling requirements have increased the visibility of certain nutrients, including sodium, helping consumers better understand the nutritional composition of the foods they purchase. While the labeling may look different, the product inside remains the same clean, simple ingredient it has always been: fermented 100% dried egg whites.

What many people don’t realize is that egg whites naturally contain both sodium and potassium—two important electrolytes that work together to support hydration, muscle function, and overall wellness. Unlike many sports drinks and electrolyte products that rely on added ingredients, egg whites provide these nutrients naturally as part of a complete protein source.

At Muskoka Mornings®, we believe consumers deserve honesty, transparency, and quality. By choosing Canadian-made egg white protein, you’re choosing products manufactured under strict standards, with clear labeling and ingredients you can trust.

That’s something worth celebrating not just on Canada Day, but every day. For inspiration on how to incorporate our clean, Canadian protein powder into your everyday routine, check out our recipes. Happy Canada Day, Canada!
